Halstead has a superb local school system (USD 440), several parks and recreation options, new housing and duplex developments, and is home to the Kansas Learning Center for Health, Halstead Public Library, and Halstead Historical Museum.  Halstead has an active downtown business community with local options for dining throughout the day and evening, services such as insurance, real estate, and banking, a grocery store, a hardware store, health and wellness services, and so much more.  Halstead has several thriving industries and major employers including Martin Machine & Welding, Mill Creek Truss, and Continental.

Location

Halstead, which occupies land area of just over one square mile along the Little Arkansas River in south central Kansas, is located approximately 10 minutes west of Newton, via US-50 and K-89 in Harvey County.  Halstead's location offers convenient access to several other nearby cities and is about 25 minutes east of Hutchinson on US-50; 30 minutes southeast of McPherson, via I-135 and county road, and about 25 minutes northwest of Wichita, via K-96 and county road.  

Population and Growth

Halstead's population is around 2,200.  Halstead has enjoyed steady, consistent, and manageable growth for several decades in areas such as population, median income, and housing.
